9/10/2023 0 Comments Williams lockdown bar![]() ![]() That brings us to the section of the project that has required the most research: the lockdown bar. Are builders mounting their playfield screens slightly further back the sidewall to accommodate for this? If so I would either need to lengthen the cabinet some amount or use the slightly shorter in length 48” LED. The bezel on that TV is very small so I’m worried a section of the screen will be covered by the lockdown bar. This leads into my second question: How much of the bottom area of the playfield is covered by the lockdown bar? If I go with the 50” LED the TV will just fit inside the opening. I’ve pretty much narrowed it down to the following two options: ![]() With a 25 ½” interior wide cabinet I can use anywhere from a 48” to 50” LED TV. It also allows me to build the whole cabinet out of a single 4’ x 8’ sheet of ¾” maple cabinet grade plywood. This should provide plenty of air intake and allow the fans in the upper back of the cabinet to circulate a ton of air. Instead I will install a 2’ x 4’ sheet of pegboard over the frame to serve as the bottom. ¾” Cabinet grade plywood isn’t cheap and I really see no reason to use it on a section of the cabinet that will never be seen. My final 3D model has been updated to correct this issue for anyone else that comes along later down the road.***Īny verification that these measurement reference points are correct would be greatly appreciated.Īs can been see from the above images I plan to build the cabinet around a simple 2x4 frame eliminating the requirement for the large ¾” plywood bottom. My cabinet ended up 3/4" longer than standard due to this. ***3/3/17 - I now know that the 45" playfield dimension includes the thickness of the cabinet front. I’m interested in knowing exactly what area is defined as the “playfield”? My design is based on a 25 ½” x 45” “playfield” if my reference points are correct for that measurement. I’ve based it off of the publicly available Williams Widebody plans but have widened the playfield to 25 ½” to match the VirtuaPin Ultra Widebody. I’m now well over a month into my research for a custom cabinet and have my preliminary design completed. Update: Finally got around to uploading my final design to the SketchUp Warehouse. ![]()
